PhD Degree Program in Epidemiology
Curriculum
A minimum of 20 credits is required to obtain the PhD Degree in Epidemiology. The core courses required for all PhD students represent 10 of the 20 required credits for the degree. They are:
- Introduction to Epidemiology (EPID 510)
- Biostatistics for Epidemiologic Methods I (EPID 526)
- Biostatistics for Epidemiologic Methods II (EPID 527)
- Database Management for Clinical Epidemiology (EPID 532)
- Measurement of Health in Epidemiology (EPID 542)
- Issues in Research Protocol Development (EPID 560)
- Critical Appraisal of the Medical Literature (EPID 570)
- Tutorial in Epidemiologic Research (EPID 610)
- Research Design Consultation (EPID 710)
- Ethics of Biomedical Research (BIOE 580)
- An advanced course in statistics or biostatistics (e.g., EPID 621, EPID 622, and/or EPID 623)
- At least seven course units of electives. All electives will be chosen in consultation with the student's faculty advisor and must be approved by the Graduate Group Chair.
Additional requirements include:
- Attendance at the weekly epidemiology seminars.
- Participation in the doctoral student seminar, a monthly meeting of all PhD students in which their research is presented and discussed in an informal setting.
