PhD Degree Program in Epidemiology

Program Overview

There are two major stages in the PhD program: pre-candidacy and candidacy. The major milestones of the pre-candidacy stage are successful completion of preparatory coursework and the written Qualifications Examination, and the development and presentation of a proposal that reflects the dissertation research program that will be undertaken as a PhD candidate. The major milestones of the candidacy stage are successful completion of the proposed research identified in the proposal, which is then presented and defended in a public forum.

Typically, a Ph.D. program takes a total of between three and five years to complete, depending on when advancement to candidacy is achieved and the time required for completing the dissertation.
