VISITING SCHOLAR: Howard McLeod, PharmD
Dr. Howard McLeod, Fred N. Eshelman Distinguished Professor, and Director, UNC Institute for Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, will be visiting Penn on March 14th and 15th. Dr McLeod holds appointments in the Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine and the Lineberger Cancer Center. He is the Principal Investigator for the CREATE Pharmacogenetics Research Network, a member of the NIH funded Pharmacogenetics Research Network, and is a member of the FDA subcommittee on Clinical Pharmacology. Dr. McLeod also directs the Pharmacogenetics for Every Nation Initiative, which aims to help developing countries use genetic information to improve National Drug Formulary decisions. Dr. McLeod has published over 250 peer reviewed papers on pharmacogenomics, applied therapeutics, or clinical pharmacology and continues to work to integrate genetics principles into clinical practice to advance individualized medicine."Using the Genome to Optimize Drug Therapy"

701 Blockley Hall.VISITING SCHOLAR: RICHARD M. WEINSHILBOUM, MD
Richard M. Weinshilboum, M.D., Professor of Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and Internal Medicine and Mary Lou and John H. Dasburg Professor in Cancer Genomics Research at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, took time from his busy schedule to visit Penn on March 15-16, 2006. During his visit, Dr. Weinshilboum met with faculty in biostatistics, epidemiology, pharmacology, psychiatry, and genetics and gave an outstanding lecture at the CCEB Clinical Epidemiology and Health Services Research Seminar. Judging from unsolicited comments, his lecture on “Pharmacogenomics: Catecholimines to Drug Metabolism” was outstanding and one of the best-received seminars in the past fourteen years! Thank you to Dr. Weinshilboum for an enjoyable visit.VISITING SCHOLAR: WILLIAM EVANS, Pharm.D.
William Evans, Pharm.D., Director and CEO of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, came to Penn as a Visiting Scholar on September 29, 2005. His visit was highly successful and included numerous meetings with faculty in genetics, pharmacology, epidemiology, and oncology. His talk “Pharmacogenomics of cancer: acute lymphoblastic leukemia as a paradigm" was one of the best attended CCEB Clinical Epidemiology and Health Services Research Seminars in its history! Special thanks to Dr. Evans for making this such a success.
