Cross Disciplinary
Education in Human Pharmacogenetic Epidemiology
The nature of
gene-drug interactions is complex, and thus requires true
interdisciplinary
approach, including open and sustained
collaboration with and among the disciplines of
genetics, bioinformatics, pharmacology, epidemiology, biostatistics,
and
bioethics. Barriers to sustainable
collaborations in the emerging field of Human Pharmacogenetic
Epidemiology
(HPE)are complex and include motivational,
cultural, perceptional, territorial, and linguistic factors.
This proposal will seek to
address these barriers to comprehensive HPE research by creating
interdisciplinary educational content that can be applied to the
following
aims:
1. Develop
and
implement the cross-disciplinary HPE seminar series
2. Develop
and
implement one large “Grand Rounds style” lecture involving visiting leaders in the field of HPE
3. Apply
content
from the HPE seminar series to a short course format for the
Certificate
Program in Clinical Research
This proposal will address the major goals of the P20 by addressing
barriers to transdisciplinary research and involving
diverse researchers in the educational objectives. The resultant
material will generate situations to foster physical contact and
intellectual interplay around focused topics and projects. The
major impact will be the breaking of barriers to foster future large
collaborative research endeavors.
