Dr. Marjorie Bowman is board-certified in both Family Practice and Preventive Medicine. She is Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Family Practice and Community Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System. Her areas of special interest are prevention, behavior change, women physicians and women's health.

In her family practice, she works with her patients to improve their lives through lifestyle changes, such as in nutrition and exercise. Her research on patient behavior change has included a study of the impact on patients of diagnoses newly discovered during preventive medicine visits, and previous work with lifestyle interventions with Dr. Kumanyika. She has also studied factors that influence behavior changes among physicians.

Dr. Bowman teaches a regular seminar on health promotion and disease prevention. Before starting at the University of Pennsylvania in 1996, Dr. Bowman spent 10 years as Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine/Wake Forest University. She is Editor of both the Journal of Women's Health and the Journal of the American Board of Family Practice.
