Services

Study Design and Biostatistics Services/Project and Data Management Services

The CCEB/DBE serves as an interdisciplinary resource for clinical research throughout the School of Medicine. CCEB/DBE faculty have expertise across a wide range of statistical methods and research designs, and have extensive experience working with biomedical and clinical investigators in diverse disciplines. Services include support for the development and implementation of studies of all sizes from small pilot studies to large-scale, multicenter clinical trials, collaborative clinical and patient-oriented research, and multi-institutional health services research projects. Long-term collaborations with CCEB/DBE faculty are encouraged.

Biostatistics and Epidemiology Consulting Center (BECC)

The Biostatistics and Epidemiology Consulting Center (BECC) provides biostatistical and epidemiological consulting services to the University of Pennsylvania Health System research community. The BECC is staffed by professionally trained biostatisticians, biostatistical programmers, data managers, and data entry staff. Faculty oversight for the BECC is provided by members of the CCEB Biostatistics and Epidemiology Divisions, with leadership for daily operations provided by a dedicated staff-level director. CCEB epidemiology and biostatistics faculty, who receive some salary support from funds allocated by the Clinical and Translational Science Award, contribute to the BECC by supporting otherwise unfunded work including grant proposal development, initial consultations, and selected unfunded pilot and other small studies.

The BECC is organized into four operational units, as described below.

All initial consultations and some services are provided at no charge to researchers. Click here to request BECC help.

Biostatistics Analysis Center

The Biostatistics Analysis Center (BAC) provides professional, high quality data analysis, biostatistical programming, and data management services for research in health outcomes, clinical trials, genomics, large prescription and diagnostic databases, and observational epidemiological studies.

Data Management Unit

The Data Management Unit (DMU) provides comprehensive and customized data management services for research studies conducted by University of Pennsylvania investigators and their collaborators.

Grant Proposal and Study Design Core

The Grant Proposal and Study Design Core (GPSDC) provides biostatistical and epidemiological study design on matters related to grant proposal development.

Outcomes Measurement Methods Core (OMMC)

The Outcomes Measurement Methods Core (OMMC) provides technical support to aid investigators in finding or developing appropriate measurement tools for the outcomes of patient-oriented clinical research.

Clinical Research Computing Unit (CRCU)

The Clinical Research Computing Unit (CRCU) provides clinical data management and research computing support for a wide range of clinical research projects.
