Summer Internship Program

The OER Summer Internship program us a seven-week paid experience.  The program offers Philadelphia area high school students a 6-week research position hosted by Penn faculty. Students are mentored by trainees or staff within faculty labs, gaining hands-on experience in conducting basic research at the bench. In addition to bench work, students participate in weekly college readiness, professional development, and career exposure activities. In the fall and spring prior to the summer internship, participating students complete preparatory training in basic laboratory skills, reading scientific literature, maintaining a laboratory notebook, and performing experiments. Students spend the seventh week exploring clinical experiences. This summer internship program offers underserved students the skills and experiences needed to support the pursuit of STEM higher education and career paths.
