Full Time, Non-Faculty Appointment Pathways for PSOM Departments

  Penn Medicine Clinician Program Scholar Instructor Research Associate
Eligible Use Case Scenarios Individuals effectively functioning and billing as attendings (note that some training might also be occurring but it is not the primary focus on the position)

Example Allocation: 100% Clinical or 90-95% Clinical / 5-10% Education
Fellows (accredited or non-accredited) and Residents pursuing a degree granting program (e.g. Masters in Public Health)

1. Appointments of “pre-faculty” who need a period of academic development prior to determine the appropriate standing faculty appointment (e.g. significant Research effort is allocated)


2. Unaccredited fellows that are doing type 2 moonlighting as defined by UPHS (must be mentioned in the Offer Letter and in the Clinical Allocation section of the RTR)

Research Associates work in sponsored research programs and must hold the appropriate terminal professional degree in their disciplines (e.g. No Clinical/Teaching effort, high percent effort in Research).
