High School Student Mentoring Opportunities

Educational Pipeline Program

The Perelman School of Medicine and the Netter Center for Community Partnerships collaborate to deliver the Educational Pipeline Program, an initiative that encourages high school students from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine (UiM) to aspire to medical careers. Medical students create fun and engaging basic science lessons in gastroenterology, neurology, and cardiology. Local high school students then attend the medical school one afternoon each week for lessons. It is a rewarding experience for all.

If you are interested in volunteering to teach or lead a curriculum, please contact Sharon Lewis, MD.

The Provost's Summer Mentorship Program (SMP)

The primary goal of the Provost's SMP is to offer promising high-risk high school students an opportunity for mentorship that affirms their potential for success. SMP aims to cultivate interest among first-generation and underrepresented students in pursuing higher education at a four-year college or university. Each summer, two medical students lead a cohort of Philadelphia public high school students in a four-week experience at the Perelman School of Medicine.
